How to choose your eyelash extension glue?
Choosing the right glue for eyelash extensions is crucial to ensure longevity, safety, and satisfaction with the results. Here are the main criteria to consider:
Drying speed:
- Fast: 0.3 - 0.5 seconds : Only for very experienced technicians, as it requires a quick application. You must have done at least 2000 eyelash extension applications to be able to use these drying times. The temperature and humidity of the work area must also match the characteristics of the selected adhesive.
- Intermediate 1 - 1.5 seconds : Suitable for intermediate-level technicians. You must have completed at least 1,500 eyelash extension applications to use these drying times. The temperature and humidity of the work area must also match the characteristics of the selected adhesive.
- Slow: 2 seconds: Suitable for beginners or intermediate lash technicians. This is also the perfect drying time for lash technicians with higher temperatures or humidity levels, since even though an intermediate lash technician applies lash extensions faster, the glue also dries faster. Therefore, you should choose a slower-drying glue to compensate for variations in the work piece.
Glue hold:
- Choose an adhesive that offers 6 to 8 weeks of hold to avoid frequent refills.
- Every day, we naturally lose between 2 and 5 lashes, which is a normal part of the lash renewal cycle. This daily shedding means that even with extensions, it's inevitable that extensions will fall off as your natural lashes fall out. Within three weeks, a significant portion of your extensions will have gone through this cycle, leaving visible gaps in your lash line. That's why it's recommended to get a refill every 3 weeks. This appointment allows you to replace missing extensions and maintain dense, even lashes. By sticking to this schedule, your lashes will remain full and balanced, ensuring a consistently flawless look.
Vapors and odors:
- Glue fumes are released when the glues used for eyelash extensions dry. As the glue dries, it releases invisible particles into the air, which can cause stinging or irritation in some clients, especially those with sensitive eyes. These fumes can also affect technicians during repeated applications without adequate ventilation. Therefore, it is essential to work in a well-ventilated space and, if necessary, use suitable glues or air purifiers to minimize exposure to the fumes.
- For sensitive clients, opt for a glue with low vapor production. Maison Regard's Safe Bond glue is ideal. This will reduce the risk of eye irritation.
PS: Remember to use a blower at the end of your application, before your client opens their eyes, to eliminate as much vapor as possible.
Humidity and temperature:
- Your workspace environment plays a crucial role in the performance of eyelash extension adhesives. Ambient temperature and humidity directly influence the drying time and hold of the adhesive.
- Too low humidity will slow down the drying time of the glue.
- Too high humidity will increase the speed at which the glue dries.
- Too low a room temperature will slow down drying time.
- Too high a room temperature will increase the speed at which the glue dries.
- Therefore, it is recommended to constantly monitor these parameters using a hygrometer to adapt the room accordingly. As a general rule, a temperature of 20 to 25°C and a humidity level of 40 to 60% are suitable for most glues, but these values can vary from one glue to another. For example, for Maison Regard Magnetic 2 Seconds glue, the ideal conditions are a humidity of 45 to 60% and a temperature between 18 and 22°C. It is therefore essential to check the manufacturer's specific recommendations for each product to ensure optimal conditions and successful application.
Viscosity:
Glue viscosity plays an important role in the ease of application and adhesion of eyelash extensions. Viscosity represents the thickness of the glue: a more viscous glue will be thicker, while a less viscous glue will be thinner.
- High-viscosity glue : Thicker, it often offers better control for technicians, as it is less likely to run or slip during application. It is ideal for fuller lashes and for techniques like Russian volume, where precise application is required.
- Low-viscosity adhesive : It's thinner, allows for faster application and is often preferred for traditional extensions. Its light weight facilitates quick and effective adhesion without adding bulk, but it can be a little more difficult for beginners to master.
The choice of viscosity therefore depends on the technique used and the technician's preferences, as well as the client's natural eyelash type.
Hypoallergenic:
- For clients with sensitive eyes or allergies, a hypoallergenic glue (usually cyanoacrylate-free) is recommended such as Safe Bond Cyanoacrylate-Free Glue .
Glue color:
- Black : Ideal for a more intense and natural effect, as it blends with natural lashes.
- Transparent: Suitable for clients with light lashes or if you want a more discreet effect or colored applications.
- Colored: Colored eyelash extension glues allow for unique and creative touches. Available in blue, purple, red, and more, they accentuate colored extensions by hiding attachment points and provide a subtle or bold visual effect. Ideal for personalized looks or special occasions, they offer a stylish alternative to black glue, while adding an artistic touch to clients' style.
Retention period:
- Check the shelf life of the glue after opening. Generally, an opened glue will last between 1 and 3 months.
- To maximize the lifespan of your eyelash extension glue, it's essential to store it properly. Keep the glue in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, ideally between 18 and 22°C. Use an airtight container or a zip-lock bag to avoid exposure to moisture. Avoid temperature fluctuations, particularly by storing the glue away from heat sources. Finally, remember to tightly close the bottle after each use to prevent evaporation and the formation of residue around the opening.
For optimal use, we offer practical accessories for maintaining and replacing caps. Our interchangeable caps are sold in sets of three and come with a small needle, ideal for easily removing excess dried glue that can accumulate in the tip. To easily remove and replace caps, our glue cap opener provides a firm grip and simplifies the process without damaging the bottle. These practical solutions extend the life of your glue and facilitate your application sessions.
